Fileserver

CAS provides file servers for use by faculty, staff, and students. The storage is intended for academic work and related documents. Please do not store personal music collections, videos, or photos on the fileserver.
Users seeking space for large amounts of data should contact us directly for a consultation.

Getting Access
Your account must be linked to AD to log in to the fileserver.

In order to link your account you must have an active Kerberos account. For guests or visiting faculty, please request an account first, then link the account to AD as described above.

Request a User Folder
User folders can be requested through a help ticket by selecting "New Server Account Request".
This user folder will not be shareable.

Request a Workgroup Folder
For purposes of collaboration, you can request a folder that can be shared by a number of users. This can be done by submitting a help ticket and selecting “New Workgroup Folder Request”.

How to access the server
There are three locations where folders may be found: casfs1.bu.edu, casfa.bu.edu and casfsb.bu.edu.

Departmental folders are located on casfs1 and casfsa, personal folders are located on casfsb. If you are unsure of where your user folder is, please contact our office and we will assist you.

From off-campus
To connect to CASFS1 from off campus, you must first install and run the Cisco VPN Client and then follow the below directions.

Accessing the server using Windows XP/Vista
From the Start menu, click on run and enter \\casfs1.bu.edu (or casfsa or casfsb)
You will be prompted for a username and password.
Enter AD\your BU username and your Kerberos password.
The server directories will appear in a window on your desktop.

Accessing the server using Mac OS X
In the finder click on the Go menu, then "Connect to server..."
In the address bar, type smb://casfs1.bu.edu (or casfsa or casfsb) and click Connect.
Choose from the list of shared volumes and click Ok.

You will be prompted for a username and password.
Enter AD\your BU username and your Kerberos password.
The icon will appear on the Desktop.

Where is my folder?
Here is a list of common folder paths and servers

\\casfs1.bu.edu contains department folders, as well as user folders that have not been moved to casfsb.bu.edu.

\\casfsa.bu.edu contains department folders, the folders for CAS 327 and 456 among other folders

\\casfsb.bu.edu\facstaff_home$ contains the user directories for faculty and staff. All newly requested faculty and staff folders are created in this location.
